Trump Signs Music Law Into Act OK, so Sferikul is not a political site and it never will be. However, I thought this story was an interesting and relevant one, especially for songwriters. On Thursday, October 11, 2018 President Trump signed the Music Modernization Act into law after it passed through congress with flying colors. The best description I could find of what this law does for songwriters was found on Forbes here. Ross Golan is a multi-platinum songwriter who was, as Forbes calls him, the “de facto leader among songwriters”, and after reading the interview, I could see why. … Continue reading THIS JUST IN: Music News 10.15.2018

Album Reviews – Robert Moses & The Harmony Crusaders

PLUTONIC FRIENDS By Robert Moses & the Harmony Crusaders Psychedelic Americana | Norway Imagine that Hank Williams and Neil Young were able to make a baby on their own and named the little baby miracle Robert Moses. OK, maybe that’s a little bit off-the-wall, but I do see similarities in Robert Moses’ sometimes shaky voice, musical stylings and the trajectory that he is shooting for. Is Plutonic Friends the best that Moses and his Harmony Crusaders have to offer us? Maybe. Maybe not. As I sit here, reviewing this album, I am listening to it for at least the fifth … Continue reading Album Reviews – Robert Moses & The Harmony Crusaders

SPOTLIGHT: Indie/Dream Pop

Indie/Dream Pop is “an atmospheric subgenre of alternative rock that relies on sonic textures as much as melody”, according to Urban Dictionary. It’s psychaedelic, ambient, floaty, vintage-sounding and as melodic as a melody can get. Began by the likes of Scottish band Cocteau Twins in the ’80s and grown to popularity over the decades, dream pop and simultaneously, indie pop, have become a huge player in the music industry as of late, with brand new acts springing up left and right. American bands like Now, Now and Best Coast are doing a killer job producing amazing music in this genre, … Continue reading SPOTLIGHT: Indie/Dream Pop

All in the Family Pt. 1

What exactly does it take to make a band magical? What makes music stand out above the rest as something unconventional? From the 1940’s greats The Andrews Sisters to the 1970’s legends The Jackson 5, the family unit has always found it’s way within music in some way, shape or form. Below are some of the most well known artists and bands from around the world that are … Continue reading All in the Family Pt. 1
