Tango With Lions

Photo by Eftychia Vlachou Dances With Lions GREECE | INDIE-FOLK/SLOWCORE Cats sure can be moody little things and this band named after the big kitties of the animal kingdom live up to their name when it comes to the amount of emotion and thought entrenched within their art. Like the kings of the jungle, Tango With Lions does not back down from any challenge, even when it comes to a larger than large indie music scene. 2007 saw the formation of the band in Athens as a sort of musical collective of musicians before settling on a steady lineup … Continue reading Tango With Lions

Abisha Uhl

“Better” Off Sticking it Out U.S.A./JAPAN| POP-PUNK ROCK You remember when we said we’d have slight exceptions on Sferikul when it comes to covering artists from the U.S.? Well, here’s exception #1 – ABISHA UHL. Currently based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Abisha had quite the colorful and culture-filled life since birth. Uhl was born in Bahrain, but her parents soon moved to Japan where she lived until she was 18. When she finished school at 18, she popped overseas to Minnesota and has called it home ever since. However, she does still tour internationally from time-to-time, always taking into consideration her … Continue reading Abisha Uhl

THE YEAR OF GIRL POWER IS HERE! U.K. | Pop According to NME, the rumors are true – the Spice Girls are back! Having been offered a reported £10 million each for TV specials, promos, a greatest hits album and the like, it turned out that it was something the girls – EVEN POSH HERSELF – is gung-ho for! Their former manager Simon Fuller was even spotted at Victoria’s mansion for the spice reunion which is an even greater sign of what sort of things are in store and assures us that the quality of such should be nothing short … Continue reading THIS JUST IN: Music News 02.04.18

Meh or Yeh Album Reviews

Winter Grit – EP Ane Bjerkan Norway | Folk/Ambient This EP is not due out until February 9, but I had the awesome opportunity to preview it before it drops. With a similar vocal quality to that of Bjork’s at times, Ane Bjerkan is unmistakably her own conceptual artist with a niche for haunting, solemn tunes. Though the other two tracks on this 3 track EP are decent compositions, I am still stuck listening to track one on repeat. Slowly Collapsing Star evokes so much emotion that it is quite difficult to put into words. I had read a … Continue reading Meh or Yeh Album Reviews

Album Reviews – Robert Moses & The Harmony Crusaders

PLUTONIC FRIENDS By Robert Moses & the Harmony Crusaders Psychedelic Americana | Norway Imagine that Hank Williams and Neil Young were able to make a baby on their own and named the little baby miracle Robert Moses. OK, maybe that’s a little bit off-the-wall, but I do see similarities in Robert Moses’ sometimes shaky voice, musical stylings and the trajectory that he is shooting for. Is Plutonic Friends the best that Moses and his Harmony Crusaders have to offer us? Maybe. Maybe not. As I sit here, reviewing this album, I am listening to it for at least the fifth … Continue reading Album Reviews – Robert Moses & The Harmony Crusaders

OPINION – Where Is The Love?

This is the first installment of our OPINION Column, a column of just that – OPINION. Nothing here is stated as fact, but rather based off of observations and deep, personal ponderings. Here goes nothin’! WHERE IS THE LOVE? Love is, hands down, one of the most written about subjects in songs past and present because, well, there’s nothing quite like it! Nothing like the first time you held hands, first time you went on a date, danced together, spent the night together, etc, etc. But – WHAT IS LOVE? And why does it concentrate the music industry so … Continue reading OPINION – Where Is The Love?
