“No Horses” Video Released by Garbage

The Scottish-American band known for their 90’s hits Only Happy When It Rains and I Think I’m Paranoid (and MANY OTHERS), have released their latest music video for their single No Horses. Not quite a piece from their 90’s catalog, this eerie track relies on inorganic, electronic instrumentation to carry it which has always been present in their music previously, of course. Though maybe not their strongest stuff to date per se, lead singer Shirley Manson still has it in regards to her iconic voice and haunting presence and their overall tone and elements are still there as well. If … Continue reading “No Horses” Video Released by Garbage

SPOTLIGHT: ICELAND

BJÖRK Probably the most famous Icelander on this list, the 51 year old Björk makes music beyond any sort of definition, with otherworldly instrumentation and rhythym, a scattered soprano voice, and just straight-up weird arrangements. Love her or hate her, one must admit that what she does – the music she creates and the way she performs – is unlike anyone else out there. She has since paved a way for Icelandic musicians of all sorts, throughout a career spanning just over 40 years. She continues to make music frequently and just announced a new album coming out soon, though … Continue reading SPOTLIGHT: ICELAND

RUIDO FEST RECAP

HOLA. This article details my experience at one of the largest Latin-American Music Festivals in the U.S.A. – RUIDO FEST in Chicago.-This is me.   Desorden Público I arrived late afternoon Friday and the first artist I saw was Desorden Público, a ska band from Venezuela. I saw some skanking happening not just from the guitarist on stage, but some faint remnants of it in the crowd as well. They were fun – plain and simple. At the end of their set they touched upon the state of Venezuela currently and it broke my heart. They mentioned that they were … Continue reading RUIDO FEST RECAP

EXTINCT SERIES – vol. 1

KID ABELHA BRAZIL | New Wave/Pop Rock RIP 1982-2015 Why you need to know them…   Let me just start by saying that Brazilian Portuguese is an immensely beautiful language. Ok, now that my linguistic nerdness has been expressed, I present to you one of my favorite foreign bands – KID ABELHA. Kid Bee (in English), was composed of three main members, Paula Toller (vocals), George Israel (sax, guitar, bgv), and Bruno Fortunato (guitar), Kid Abelha had it’s start over thirty years ago, debuting on Brazilian radio back in 1982. The year 1984 bore their first full-length album, Seu Espião … Continue reading EXTINCT SERIES – vol. 1

Sannie Fox

A Fox To Be Reckoned With SOUTH AFRICA | Rock/Blues Good ole rock n’ roll is not dead, folks… It is actually quite alive and thriving in the form of a South African musician named Sannie Fox. If you dig 70’s rock, or powerful, soulful voices, then this is the new rock goddess for you. Fox’s music reaches all ages due to it’s timeless nature, channeling the magic that was classic rock, while representing something new through melodies that swirl about flawlessly, almost tribal. Serpente Masjien, meaning Serpent Machine, is her debut album as a solo artist and is an … Continue reading Sannie Fox

Leah Dou

Say “I Dou” CHINA | Alternative/Jazz/Pop OK. Picture Thom Yorke of Radiohead. Now erase that picture and replace it with the hippest 20 year old you have ever heard of and you have singer/songwriter Leah Dou. OK, so maybe that’s not the best example, but I tried. It is very hard to describe Leah, let alone her music if you haven’t listened to her. Let’s say you’re making a music cocktail… you would add the following ingredients:   Put all of those ingredients together, shake them up, and pour that beautiful, musical masterpiece into your earbuds and you’ve got just … Continue reading Leah Dou
