Drumming Up A Dream Australia | Indie Pop This is quite the unconventional Cinderella story if I’ve ever heard of one. Once upon a time, there was a touring drummer who dreamt of more out of music for her life. She locked herself in her bedroom for a full year and away with her creative spirit she went! While she began creating and producing her own music, she recognized the need for a sidekick and companion. In no time, a living, blinking, moving drumkit named JEROMO was born! But that’s not where this story ends… that’s only just the beginning. … Continue reading G Flip

SPOTLIGHT: Indie/Dream Pop

Indie/Dream Pop is “an atmospheric subgenre of alternative rock that relies on sonic textures as much as melody”, according to Urban Dictionary. It’s psychaedelic, ambient, floaty, vintage-sounding and as melodic as a melody can get. Began by the likes of Scottish band Cocteau Twins in the ’80s and grown to popularity over the decades, dream pop and simultaneously, indie pop, have become a huge player in the music industry as of late, with brand new acts springing up left and right. American bands like Now, Now and Best Coast are doing a killer job producing amazing music in this genre, … Continue reading SPOTLIGHT: Indie/Dream Pop

Thomas Lundell

A Scandinavian Songbird Finds His Tune SWEDEN | Pop Apple Music, I adore you a whole bunch. I was listening through AM’s new weekly picks for me and this gentleman was smack dab in the middle of that playlist. Your Loss starts out in an almost country-western way with a strummy guitar and as soon as Lundell starts singing, I am hooked. Some male voices in the pop world can seem a bit overdone, overproduced or as though they are trying too hard, in my opinion; Thomas is an exception beyond all exceptions. He is the entire package – writes his own … Continue reading Thomas Lundell

Amy Shark

When Indie Bears It’s Teeth AUSTRALIA | Indie Pop I stumbled across this chick right before Shark Week. Is it fate? MAYBE. Australian artist Amy Shark produces some pretty melancholic pop that I just can’t help but listen to on late night drives with my windows open, the summer breeze blowing through my hair. The tone of her music makes you feel like you are living in a a beautiful, emotive and memorable movie-like moment… almost as though you are literally stuck in a minute’s worth of time. Though the music and melodies sound sentimental at times, they aren’t necesaarily … Continue reading Amy Shark
